DECEMBER - Why Wait
If you follow me on Instagram, you are probably privy to my movement practice that I have been documenting in stories since January 1st. I am actually a wee bit shocked that I finally stayed consistent this year. Like a lot of people, I historically have had trouble with sticking to a routine. And not just to a routine but to myself. This year I have learned how to honor my 46-year-old body in the way that it should be honored. I have become the type of person who prioritizes feeling good before anything else (this last statement is a tribute to James Clear and his book Atomic Habits).
Life is fleeting and unpredictable, so why not do the things that make us feel good? It took a lot of discipline to get here. Yes, motivation and inspiration played a part. But those are feelings, and they, too, come and go. In the past, I would often fall into the trap of I don’t feel like it, and I would skip doing anything good for myself. This time last year, I was in a complete funk of sorts. I felt shitty, didn’t have the energy to do the things I loved, and was incredibly overwhelmed and stressed, and the littlest of things would set me off. My nervous system was overloaded, my anxiety was at an all-time high, I felt unhealthy and straight-up blaaaaah. The details of all that will be saved for another time, but my point is that today I am in a much better place than last year. I feel good, and that’s something I could not say last year. One of the main reasons for this is that I made the decision that feeling good is my number one priority. I chose discipline over motivation. I chose action over talking about it. I chose accountability over winging it. And I finally chose myself.
Today I did my 199th intentional movement practice, and over the past 10.5 months, I have heard from so many people about how they too have started a daily practice/daily honoring of themselves after being inspired by how I was sharing my commitment to my own practice. These messages helped me too.
And now I would like nothing more than to do this together. I am inviting you to join me for the month of December to commit or re-commit to a daily movement practice.
Every day we will move together. Every single day. I am even upping my challenge too. No days off in the month of December. Why wait for New Year’s like most people? You are not like most people. Why not now? Give me one reason….. Seriously. As I write this, we are all getting older. Life will never get easier. There will always be something on the calendar. We all have responsibilities and stressors, and if we have the ultimate privilege of being able-bodied….why not use it to feel good?
What this will look like:
For the monthly/yearly members of the Feel Good Studio ($9 a month/$90 a year)
Starting December 1st, for 31 days, we commit to an intentional movement practice for a minimum of 20 min per day.
Accountability daily check-ins in the Feel Good Studio. Optional
Short daily notes to keep you motivated, inspired, and disciplined.
I will share my daily practices, who I am currently working with, what I am doing, and how my trainer sets up my routine.
Interview and Q&A with my trainer Ashley.
Ideas for intentional movement for free & low-cost, as well as ideas for people who need to spend a lot of money to hold themselves accountable. Everyone needs something that works for them. So there will be a large variety shared.
This is NOT about killing yourself every day. It’s about getting into the practice of choosing intentional movement. Carving out the time and sticking to it. It’s not about how hard or how long you can go. You can literally just go in the backyard and walk in circles for 20 minutes. Just get in the practice of setting the time for yourself. That’s the point. Keep your word - feel good.
If you think 31 days is a lot, it is. But you are so worth it! We have this one life. Why not do the things that feel good? Why not go for it? Commit to yourself in a way that will make you so proud and confident and will give you a new perspective on trusting yourself because you accomplished a goal you set for yourself. When we keep our word to ourselves, it truly is the best feeling ever.
