A note from Mia:
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Here are some things that have captivated my attention as of late.
Let me know what resonates with you and if you would like more of this.
WATCH
The Social Dilemma on Netflix
Rich Roll Podcast ep 546 “Our Social Dilemma” (I like to watch his podcast)
READ
Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art by James Nestor. OMG my husband introduced me to this book. It may be the most important book we have read this year.
The Sober Lush: A Hedonist's Guide to Living a Decadent, Adventurous, Soulful Life--Alcohol Free by Amanda Eyre Ward & Jardine Libaire. I LOVE this book. I read 1-2 chapters every morning.
Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. I am increasingly letting go of unnecessary tech. I also USE tech for good and not for checking out.
How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. Reading this with a group of women. Ibram's voice is one that I hope to learn from for years to come.
The Wim Hof Method: Activate Your Full Human Potential by Wim Hof. I love his energy and the science behind his work. I am also a big believer in cold therapy.
Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. Again, his energy.
Caddis Readers - I have the black Miklos. They have completely changed my reading habits. Who knew!
LISTEN
Joe Rogan Podcast ep 1506 with James Nestor author of Breath
Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard ep “Day 7” (This is blowing up the internet right now)
Sarah Blondin “Making Your Life Sacred” on Insight Timer -
This made me ugly cry. Unfortunately, it was while I was walking my dogs around the neighborhood. I've listened to it at least 100 times now.
PLAYLIST FROM LAST WEEKS BREATHWORK ZOOM
LEARNINGS
Currently taking a deep dive into Yoga Nidra and the science behind it. I've been practicing this form of yoga consistently for over a decade and it just continues to do its wonders on me.
Where Breathwork is my Yang, Yoga Nidra is my Yin.
Bringing these two modalities together is giving me life!
COMING SOON:
Happy to share that I will soon be offering both Breathwork and Yoga Nidra classes via zoom. It's been a long time coming.
MOVE
There are days that I am so exhausted from working in the hospital that I don't even want to talk, let alone workout.
But we have to move.
It doesn't have to be an intense workout every single day, just something that increases those divine and grateful heartbeats.
I have been preparing for quarantine home workouts for years! My favorites are:
PELOTON - Just rides on my own. I am holding myself back in level 2 and riding 30-60minutes. There is something to be said about that slow burn. I feel invigorated after this low-intensity workout as opposed to completely depleted with HIIT rides.
I know this bike and tread are crazy expensive but you can also just purchase the membership for the weights, barre, yoga, & meditation classes. The APP cost is $12.99 a month.
Here is a purchase code: Y4XJG4
Find me #Sweatmybitchout
LEKFIT - I love trampoline classes and the sculpt is ace. $19.99 a month. I have this trampoline.
MELISSA WOOD HEALTH - Pilates, short and sweet. $9.99 a month.
GLO (formally yogaglo) - So many classes to choose from. $18.99 a month.
FREE
Coach Kel youtube (look around, there are thousands of free workouts)
Or just get outside and walk!
INFORMATIVE FOLLOWS
I deleted my entire IG following list last year and took a few months off from other people’s voices (highly recommend). At the time I was pretty much only following sobriety accounts and it started to all blend together. In the midst of a massive burnout of all things sober, I needed to clear my space so I could hear my own thoughts around my own sobriety. Happy to report that it worked.
I am now very intentional with this IG tool. I may not be a complete digital minimalist (sorry Cal) but the intentionality around it feels really good.
Here are some of my favorite follows.
This list purposely has nothing to do directly with sobriety, just good people doing good work.
