At the end of this newsletter I have listed some of my favorite facilitators, including an excellent resource for FREE breathwork and yoga nidra.
I’m really loving having this space where I can share all the tools that have helped me navigate this alcohol-free lifestyle. Two of my favorites are breathwork and yoga nidra. You can read about them here and here.
Not only are these two modalities two of the most transformative and powerful tools alone, but put them together, and the experience becomes otherworldly. Breathwork is more yang. It requires effort, it’s more masculine in its energy, it can be fiery, and it can stir up a lot of resistance and then it will invite us to push past and work through it, whereas yoga nidra is more that yin, soft, feminine, easy energy. There is nothing to do other than stay awake and follow the voice of the guide. Both practices are usually done lying on the ground in the traditional yoga pose of savasana. However, both practices can be done sitting up if one chooses to do so.
We will start with a brief talk and description of how to set up and what to expect. We will then be breathing for approximately 25-30min. After the breathwork, while enjoying the inner space you have created, you will then be guided into a traditional yoga nidra body scan. I find these two practices together are an incredibly powerful way to get out of the head and into the body. We all want to feel good, right?
But in order to feel good, we have to feel it all!
We have to take the time to tune in and really give ourselves space to feel what we are feeling. Heck, we didn’t give up alcohol to continue tuning out our inner landscape. So I am only assuming that if you are here reading these words, you already understand the power of being able to feel it all. Or at least wanting to know how.
Breathwork and yoga nidra can be a great start. But please don’t just take my word for it. Try it for yourself.
These practices are big energy exchanges, and one must feel safe and at ease with their guides. Not everyone is for everyone and I may not be that person for you. In this case, I would like to offer a list of some of my favorite breathwork facilitators and how you can practice with them online and/or in person!
David Elliot @davidelliott10 (Mia’s teacher and lead facilitator of this style of breathwork)
Melodee Solomon @melodee_solomon
Samantha Story @samanthastory_
Tiffany Curren @tiffanycurrenxo
Kathleen Currie @wellspring.nola
Another great and completely free way of practicing breathwork and yoga nidra is the one and only INSIGHT TIMER. Download the app, and you have a plethora of international guides waiting to share an experience with you.
And always, thank you for taking this ride with me!
